thekla-larkIf you want to experience the real Spain or just escape from the hustle and bustle of the Costa’s, then come and enjoy a trip into the countryside of Granada Province. The tours are centred on the area to the west of the City of Granada in the area around Loja the provinces second largest town. 3. Birding Days - Doñana and Huelva Province

The choice is yours

foto2The province of Huelva is always ready to create unforgettable memories: the flight of cranes at dawn, the music of a waterfall by a footpath, the mysticism of a Moorish fortress, the gliding of a giant black vulture over our heads, the man who never existed, the last beam of sunlight of Andalusia, the announcement of the spring arrival by bee-eaters or the challenging look of a fighting bull are a minimal example of everything what Nature and the charming corners of Huelva offer us.

Coto Doñana is located in South-western Spain between the provinces of Seville, Cadiz and Huelva, though most of its territory is in the latter. Its privileged nature has granted world renown to it. At present there are near 110.000 hectares protected between National Park and Nature Reserve. For thousands of years humans have been living in the area and have transformed the landscape, creating the current Doñana.

3t9p4365---yellow-legged-gullFirst time visitors are pleasantly surprised by the tremendous variety this province has to offer and, more and more people every year are discovering not only the sun soaked beaches and crystal clear water but also the natural beauty of this part of Spain. It is a land of geographic contrasts with long sandy beaches and also small secluded coves, desert areas and fertile expanses with varied vegetation, and high mountains and extensive plains. From the snows of the Sierra Nevada you can drive to the only desert in Europe (Sierra de Alhamilia) in about an hour.

Bird species change with altitude and vegetation. During our Day Tour we will pass through the different habitats as: oak groves, pine groves, rocky mountains, desert gorges, badlands, ramblas or orchards in the typical village of Turrillas.

10. Raptor Migration Strait of Gibraltar

spanish-imperial-eagleAn ornithological holiday in which you will see one of the most fantastic sights in raptor migrations. Thousands of raptors and other bird species often fly and soar across the short crossing from mainland Europe to the continent of Africa each day. Each autumn we have over 600,000 recorded birds passing through what is essentially a funnel at the southern tip of Spain. We have over 80 recorded migratory species of which there are over 190,000 raptors making the journey across to Africa! Raptors, more than any other family of birds, exhibit massive, visible, and far-ranging migrations, while their diversity and abundance in many places are critical indicators of the health of ecosystems.

11. Spain - From Mountains to Doñana

Serrania de Ronda, Tarifa and Doñana

short-toed-eagleThe area of the Serranía de Ronda and Sierra de Grazalema is breathtaking and the birds offer variety from those we will see as we journey southwards to Tarifa and later to the Doñana area. This tour will combine these three areas.

The Serranía de Ronda and Sierra de Grazalema, is unique and an important area for European birds. Not only is the area rich in breeding species, some four different species of eagle nest here, but also because of its’ close proximity to the Straits of Gibraltar. It is an extremely important feeding area for migrant birds.
